The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, to make a detailed study of the theme of the Gentiles and the Gentile mission in Luke-Acts. And second, to use these results as an avenue of approach to broader problems in the teaching of both Jesus and Luke. As regards Jesus, how his teaching on the Gentiles is related to his eschatology. As regards Luke, both how he sees the relationship .   Jews, Samaritans and Gentile believers at the ends of the earth were all being incorporated into one renewed people of God, just as Jesus promised. Luke prepares the way for the Samaritan mission in the Book of Acts with several references to Samaria and Samaritans in the gospel that bears his name. Jesus and the Journey through Samaria.

The Gospel of Luke compiles eyewitness accounts that prove Jesus fulfills the Old Testament covenant between God and Israel and creates a new Israel for all mankind. Jesus ministers to the poor, outcasts and others as He brings restoration and reversal to people's life circumstances and expands God's covenant to include everyone. The Prodigal Son. MISSION AND UNIVERSALISM IN LUKE-ACTS 57 the study of the Gentile mission in Acts, is occupied largely with the question of historical reliability of Luke-Acts than on Luke's concept(s) of mission.

A brief and yet a comprehensive study on Luke's theology of mission, in our opinion, can be found in the work, D.J. Bosch's Transforming Misison. He sees the seeds of the gentile mission right back in Jesus' own life and work: at the very beginning of Luke's gospel, the old man, Simeon, says, prophetically, that.

In the introduction to the book of Luke, Luke introduces the information he is giving with this statement: "Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word.".

As a thoroughly Gentile church we take the logic of a mission to the Gentiles for granted, but it's not as obvious or inevitable as we might think. Jesus appears to have been almost entirely occupied with a mission to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel" (Matt.

; ; cf. Jer. ) and, while in the flesh, even to have opposed the proclamation of the gospel to the Gentiles. xi, pages 23 cm Based on the author's thesis, Durham University, Includes bibliographical references (pages ) Jesus and the Gentiles -- The Gentiles in Luke's Gospel -- Lukan eschatology -- The early chapters of Acts -- Stephen and the Hellenists -- Paul's conversion -- Cornelius and the Apostolic Council -- Paul's speech on the Areopagus -- Jewish Pages: The Gentiles and the Gentile Mission in Luke-Acts - by Stephen G.
